Karen Dalrymple

There is an art to seeing and it is my continuing development of this art that gives me one of my greatest pleasures. I can be found driving along the old country roads of New England searching for quiet, romantic settings that most would just pass by. I have used an old darkroom process to develop these photographs called Lith printing. It is a technique that utilizes normal black and white negatives. However, by heavily overexposing them onto suitable papers and then only partially developing them in highly diluted lith developer, the result is seductive and subtle, with an etching or charcoal feel. Because of the dynamic process and the many variables involved, it is impossible to create an exact duplicate of any image but this allows me to create an infinitely more individualized edition than one of a conventional print. Each original photograph is hand created on double weight, fine art fiber paper and then selenium and gold toned for both tonal quality and archival permanence.

I am an award winning, fine art photographer. I have been in many juried photography and art exhibitions throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island and my work can be found in private collections all over New England. I am currently represented by Exposed Gallery of Art Photography of Delmar, NY. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, would like to see more of my work or if you are interested in a commissioned piece.
