Bryan Bridges

For more than forty years Bryan has been fascinated with photography. He moved past snapshots developed at the drug store when he earned his photography merit badge on his way to becoming an Eagle Boy Scout. He built his home darkroom as a teen. With a strong Chemistry background Bryan has experimented with his own photochemicals and several antique wet techniques. Most of his wet darkroom work was 35 mm black and white although he has developed and printed color negative and color slides. Bryan started buying Canon 35 mm bodies and lenses while serving in the U. S. Air Force. At the present time Bryan is shooting with a Canon G1 digital camera. He reports that he is saving his pennies for a digital SLR.

Working in a College Chemistry Department as a lab technician Bryan had access to astrophotography and photomicrography equipment and enjoyed the beauty of photographing the immense far distant objects of space as well as the minuscule realms of the microscope.

“Available light photographs, Bryan said, have always captured my imagination. I also like shooting in the ‘blue hour.’ Landscapes seem to be the most available subjects for me but I love old buildings often finding the details more interesting than the big picture. Presenting things in a new way is my greatest challenge. Most people enjoy the unique angles I try to use. My photographs are very rarely post produced, what you see in a print is what the camera captured.”

Bryan also produces mixed media art from some of his images. In this technique the image is driven to a black and white with no gray scale. The image is then hand colorized using brushed watercolor or watercolor pencil on watercolor paper.

Professionally Bryan has worked as a school photographer, wedding photographer, fine art photographer and photojournalist. His time is divided between writing, photography, art and poetry now. He is a member of the Pioneer Valley Photographic Artists where you can see five of his prints on their web site (http://www.pvphotoartists.com/artists.html.)

The most important inspiration for Bryan's art is his soul mate Karen. It is to her that each piece is dedicated.

Bryan’s prints are available for sale. Many of his images (4x6) are available as blank greeting cards (including envelope.)
